"Sea Our Sea"

Each year the Cedar River Complex organizes a volunteer appreciation event to honor the individuals giving of their time and talents in various positions at the CRC. This year’s event, “See Our Sea”, showcases special collections, artistic creations and hobbies of CRC volunteers and is beautifully displayed in the Mitchell County Historical Museum. The open house for this exhibit, Sunday, June 29 is from 1:00 p.m. through 5:00 p.m. with a special volunteer recognition at 2:00 p.m. Adult beverages, bottled water, hors d’oeuvres and chocolates will be served.

According to Shannon Paulus, CRC Volunteer Coordinator, the creative exhibit title, “See Our Sea”, was crafted by Jim Cross and is more than a fun play on words. “See Our Sea or C-R-C, invites people to come and meet the ‘sea’ of volunteers to share in an event that celebrates their commitment to service and excellence,” said Paulus.

Paulus also said the exhibit is another great opportunity to share stories and connect with volunteers on a personal level. Some of the collections include covered bridges, quilts, embroidery, woodworking, hunting trophies, refurbished toy farm equipment, hats, greeting cards, doll clothing, accordion, 7-Up can collection, dolls, turtles, salt and pepper shakers, and family heirlooms.

The Mitchell County Historical Museum Committee and the Museum Design Crew, in collaboration with the Cedar River Complex staff and volunteers, are incorporating fish and sea themes to not only create a welcoming, enjoyable exhibit, but to also illustrate the CRC’s belief and implementation of the Fish Philosophy, created by Charthouse Learning. The foundation of the Fish Philosophy is to build stronger relationships through four simple practices: Be There, Play, Make Their Day, and Choose Your Attitude.

The Mitchell County Historical Museum is located in the Cedar River Complex . Museum hours are 1-5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
