Deanne Eisenman Quilt Exhibit

My Quilting Life

My name is Deanne Eisenman. I was born in Connecticut and moved with my family to south Florida when I was 10. I graduated from high school in Stuart, Florida, which I consider my home town even though I was not born there. I went to the University of Florida and graduated with a BSBA in marketing. I actually found and married a north Iowa guy in Florida and we had our first child there. My husband, Craig, and I moved to Osage with our two children in 1998.

I have always enjoyed crafting but never thought about quilting until I took a 10 week adult education class “b.c.” (before children). Little did I know that the whole class was to be taught all by hand, piecing and quilting. Silly me…. I picked a queen size quilt and one of the more difficult blocks, the Lemoyne Star, to do in this class! Needless to say after finishing that class, and buying my first sewing machine, I was hooked!

Since beginning to quilt over 25 years ago, I have designed most of my own projects. In the early years I sketched out my ideas on graph paper and worked from that to make my projects. Several years ago, I added computer aided design to my graph paper sketching to make my design process much easier. After a while, I thought “why not market these patterns?”. That is how my pattern design company, Snuggles Quilts, was born in May of 2003.  I have since successfully marketed my patterns to shops around the country from my home based business here in Osage. I love to design seasonal and holiday patterns as well as scrappy quilt patterns.  The patterns range from pillows and table runners to wall hangings and lap quilts.  My web site,, showcases all of my designs.

I have taught many classes in quilt shops and at guilds around the Midwest.  Most of my classes are based on one of my favorite techniques, needle-turn hand appliqué.  My first book, Country-Fresh Quilts, was published by Martingale & Company in August of 2008.  In February of 2011 my second book, Scrap Quilts Go Country was released. Since starting my design business, I have had quilt patterns published in Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting, Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, McCall’s Quick Quilts, Quilter’s World, McCall’s and Primitive Quilts & Projects. My third book, Blooming Patchwork, was just released by Kansas City Star Quilts in October of 2014. Every year I attend an international trade show for quilting and fiber arts, usually in the fall, to market my patterns to quilt shops and distributors from all over the country and world.

Working at home in my studio has been a dream come true.  I love the entire process in developing a pattern.   From designing to writing the pattern to constructing a sample, there is no better way to spend a day.  Seeing a project emerge from the initial drawings on graph paper to a finished quilt is what keeps my days interesting!  My husband Craig, and our kids, Alyssa and Mitchell have been a wonderful support system when it comes to my quilting “obsession”.  We also have a cat, Snuggles, the company namesake, who believes she owns every quilt sample I make.

I am displaying my Sylvia’s Bridal quilt, as well as several other quilts of my own design. I joined the Sylvia’s group a bit late and was only able to get 40 blocks competed. Some of  the blocks were challenging  but it was fun to test my skills. I chose my favorite blocks among those I had completed and set them on point and, of course, added an appliqué motif of my design. It was a joy to make this quilt and also gather once a month with fellow quilters as we shared the new blocks we made. There is nothing better than gathering with a group of friends while we stitch and chat!
